A Look At South West London

A Look At South West London

Greater London is built up of five sub-regions, and over the years the way the sub-regions are divided has changed quite a bit. Generally, South West London is made up of several London Boroughs including Kingston-upon-Thames, Lambeth, Merton, Richmond-upon-Thames and Sutton. But following a few amendments to the London Plan in 2011, some people would now include the Boroughs of Wandsworth, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow. A long stretch of the River Thames runs through many towns in South West London, and the South West Londoners tend to be very proud over their side of the Thames. Setting itself slightly apart from the concrete jungle and buzzing metropolis of Central London, the South West is a home to many more stretches of green and quaint villages, but still withholds the chic and cosmopolitan feel of the city. Many of our accommodation in London services are based in south west London so this will be a handy guide to what’s where and what you should be checking out.

Shopping

As anywhere in London, the South West has a lot to offer when it comes to shopping. Most towns are host to the usual abundance of designer shops and English high street stores for clothes, home or food shopping. You won’t have to look too hard to seek out chic boutiques and cool vintage shops though, as most town and village centres are a hub of one-off finds for unique shopping. There are also plenty of markets available to the public with Love Wimbledon market a particularly great market of high quality food and drink. However, heading into some of the quainter towns and villages of South West London, you can find much more interesting and one-of-a-kind eateries. Also, there are an abundance of brilliantly British pubs with wholesome classic menus all over London, where you can eat for really cheap in a vibrant and friendly atmosphere throughout the whole evening.

  • Try Richmond for good pubs in old Georgian buildings
  • Try The Depot Brasserie in Barnes for an idyllic riverside view, home made menu and great wine & cocktails.

Nightlife

Whether you are looking for a chilled out cocktail bar or a Latino dance club, South West London is home to a vast array of buzzing nightlife. For chic and swanky feels, Londoners enjoy going to enoteca-style wine bars where you can taste and buy from a library of good wines, such as at Vagabond Wines in Fulham. After a few pints of beer in the local pub, most students are ready to turn it up a notch at a cool cocktail bar. An extremely popular new-age creation; cocktail bars are everywhere. And you can definitely find cocktail bars with great deals and happy hours that help to mind your budget. Although for students, the night is usually building up to the nightclub- and there are more than a fair share around!
